Aegis, a Greek word, “under the Aegis of” meaning under the protection of, Aegis was also the shield of Zeus!!

The company was formed in 1981 by its current Managing Director Alan Hicks as an intruder or burglar alarm installer and maintainer, Aegis remains independent with a strong family run core, but it has grown into many areas of expertise over the last 29 years.

Any company is only as good as its worst member of staff…it is no surprise that we have taken many years to obtain, train and mould our employees into working with us rather than for us as our common goal is customer satisfaction. A testament to this is 70% of new enquiries come from recommendations.

We recently moved to our new offices in Dedham which is ideally located on the Essex Suffolk boarders just off the A12. This position provides quick and easy access to the Colchester and Ipswich areas. In fact we not only serve Colchester and Ipswich, we cover roughly a 60 mile radius from our offices which includes the Witham, Braintree and Chelmsford areas in Essex and the Felixstowe, Diss, Stowmarket and Needham Market areas in Suffolk.

Having been in business for 29 years, we have developed a strong relationship with many of the local police forces, insurance companies (in fact we are known by the insurers for arguing a client’s point for a workable system!!) and we have been members of the NSCIA, NACOSS and we are now fully accredited members of the SSAIB. All of these are inspectorates for the intruder alarm industry to promote high standards of installation and service to the current standards BS4737 now European Standards EN50131 etc. As an approved installer we are recognised by the insurance industry, ACPO and all police forces enabling us to carry out remotely monitored installations.
However, inspectorates and standards are no use unless they are backed up by true commitment to deliver the promise of a first class installation using the highest quality equipment. This means we are not the cheapest, but we pride ourselves that installations fitted over 20 years ago are still functioning and over 80% of our client base remains on regular maintenance with us.
Evolve or die!! How true, when we look at the systems we fit today, how they have changed, whatever we seem to do now we need a laptop! In this constantly changing industry and with the variety of disciplines we cover all our staff, from the top to the bottom, are on a constant training and learning programme.
Even though technology has moved on the ethos of our approach has not changed. All systems need to be designed to fit around the lifestyle of the client NOT the other way round. It has to fit you, not you fit it, in this way the system is useable and reliable. Also with the level of technology that exists today, if the job has been correctly specified and installed, there is no excuse for unreliability in any system. By exercising this policy and with our attention to detail we have secured an enviable client list over the years including:
Local councils, Schools, Water companies, The Environment Agency, Moody Homes, E J Taylor & Sons, Vaughan & Blythe, Knights Developments, Michael Howard Homes, Dagenham Motors, Accuma Plastics, the list goes on…. But not to forget hundreds of domestic clients.
